Forward Arc
Progress lies not in enhancing what is,
but in advancing toward what will be.
— Khalil Gibran
Firefox has been my primary browser for a long while on both desktop and mobile devices. This changed when I started to use the Arc browser from The Browser Company of New York.
The Arc browser has take a very different and approach on our interactions with the internet and most of it is great. Of the many, there are three key features that it brings to the proverbial table that boost productivity in both personal and work settings:
- Split View
- Spaces and Profile
- Little Arc
The Split View features reminds me of text editors (and some IDEs) that allow you to split an editor window to see content side-by-side with creating separate browser windows and putting them next to each other. Why no other major browser vendor has done this before is something I can’t figure out and really shows the lack of innovation.
Spaces is a wonderful experience and surpasses what exists in other major browsers. It is intuitive, seamless, and syncs across devices without any issues. Some of the major browser vendors introduce a similar feature; but their implementation is lacking the finesse of what The Browser Company of New York produced.
The Little Arc embodies the saying “Good things come in small packages.” It is a well-conceived idea that significantly enhances productivity, despite having a few rough edges. It excels in providing quick previews and serves as an excellent tool for developers to load web apps/sites locally without the need for launching the full browser.
The combination of these three features, along with the seamless syncing across devices, convinced me to make this browser my default choice, even in its beta stage. Additionally, the fact that it is built on Chromium only adds to its advantages.
I still like Firefox and would continue to use it; just not as my primary browser.
P.S. If you are looking to try out the Arc browser; you can request an invite; or if you would like to get your hands on it faster; drop me a line and I will be more than happy to furnish you with an invite.
